Phase Linear 700b Amp For Sale What Amplifier Class Does The Phase Linear 700B (700 B) Fall Under?

What amplifier class does the Phase Linear 700B (700 B) fall under? - phase linear 700b amp for sale

Not able to find a free manual for this vintage home audio amplifier. Control over their classes, tons of amplifiers. Class A to Class of thinking. I'm curious, what belongs to matches since I know that the Class A amplifier AMP to run hot and I did not vent more work on my stereo cabinet. Thanks

I think it is class AB.
The power amplifier is a supplement, there will be to avoid the Class B, but crossover distortion of the transistors that are easily distorted in the eye of a DC component. This makes the class work for a small part of the cycle. The combination is called Class AB.
A class B amplifier is only heated while the sound is amplified. A Class AB dissipates some heat, even if no signal is applied. Since the DC component is always present.

Class A amplifiers have very low distortion. Class AB too, but not so low.
Of course, also depends on how good they are.
Whether his best is hard to say. You need to "super ears.
There are other factors that affect the overall sound quality.
If you have very efficient speakers, amplifiers can be less appropriate, but with efficient speakers have a lower power amplifier, may prefer to go to class AB.
The general rule for deciding how much energy you nEED is:
Start by selecting the speakers you want. Their efficiency (or sensitivity Discover). Find the efficiency of the order of 87 dB (at 1 watt, 1 meter) to 99 dB SPL.
Every time you double the performance of the speakers more than 3 dB. For a maximum output of 111 dB SPL, you need a 256-watt amplifier for the speaker to 87 dB, and only 16 watts to the speakers at 99 dB.
It is recommended that you have 3 dB "space" in your device, so you 512 W, that the first and 32 watts for the second.
In short, the power amplifier depends on two things: 1) the effectiveness of the speaker and 2) Max SPL produced.
Try the speakers for greater efficiency.
